The Power of Video

                                           Power of Video
Great Exposure Opportunities for Small Business Owners

From ancient verbal times to the modern technical era, the way products and services have been introduced and promoted through advertising have gone through a tremendous evolution.  Technological changes keep the advertising media changing.  Business owners must find the best medium to communicate to clients and potential clients the relevance of their product or service in our everyday lives.

Business owners can choose from technical and non-technical media or a combination.  There are newspapers and magazines, telephone, mailers, radio, TV, and the Internet.  Each one of these mediums is a great way to communicate.   Some were imperative and the major way to advertise in it’s time and all are still used today.

Newspaper advertising is a less expensive and efficient way to get your product seen.  The main appeal of newspaper advertising was the large distribution factor.  Now however, more and more people read their news online or watch the 24\7 cable news shows.  Magazine advertising is still an excellent way to target customers.  But again, magazine subscribers are opting for online versions, and even Kindle type versions rather than the newsstand magazine with all the colorful ads.

Radio commercials have long reached out to masses of people and still do, but although deemed inexpensive back in the day, can be very expensive today and in a highly visual world it is only audio.  To be effective, radio ads must be heard by a targeted audience at the appropriate time, show and station.

Telephone advertising is personal but cold calls can be irritating to people not looking for your products or services.  Telephone is audio also, but it is interactive with the customer.   Telephone advertising is not as effective now as it once was.

Mailers are visual pictures, thus limited appeal. Mass mailers can be expensive and the rate of return and response is less than 1%.    We can get immune to these messages such as in junk mail.  Mail advertising also is not as effective as it once was.

Since 1941 when the Buluva Watch Company paid NBC $9 for a 20 second ad before a baseball game, TV has become the most effective way to market any product or service.

TV has maximum visual and audio to communicate to mass audiences through jingles, catchphrases, slang, and pop culture.  Because each TV commercial is unique and different, it is adaptable to provide the ultimate platform to create a certain feeling about your brand service or product.    TV has come from simple black and white 20 second spots to ads featuring movie stars.  But, even the simplest TV ad nowadays is extremely expensive.  With the growing popularity of TIVO and DVR, people are now able to fast forward and skip commercials altogether.

In the age of the World Wide Web, to be a valid company or organization, you must have a website or internet presence. Even with a website with all the bells and whistles customers still have to read the content (most people don’t read every word and may not get your full or intended message)  and navigate effectively to find the products or service they are looking for.  Simply put, websites may not fully engage clients or potential customers.

Although relatively new, the Internet has grown and is growing faster every day.  The convenience of the Internet is only second to TV and it’s world wide reach can exceed TV commercials. Search engines like Google can direct customers to your web site.  They would be required however to search for a particular subject and your site could be missed.
